Punching Shear Resistance of Flat Slabs Strengthened with Near Surface–Mounted CFRP Bars

This paper presents the effectiveness of strengthening slab–column connections against punching shear failure with near surface–mounted (NSM) carbon fiber–reinforced polymer (CFRP) bars. The experimental program consists preparing and testing eight samples, two control, six strengthened samples. main variables experiment are layout cross-sectional area CFRP results show that NSM increases ultimate load by up to 44%. delays formation first crack in concrete, thus maintaining a linear behavior for load–displacement load–strain curves higher level load. flexural stiffness over 100% maintains strong bond concrete throughout loading. strength slab increases, which subsequently improves capacity. compared several design codes modification implementation Chen Li’s method. There is good agreement between calculated capacity samples obtained results.
